he Hoosier Link program is a guaranteed admission program implemented through a cooperative agreement between Indiana University (IU) Bloomington and Ivy Tech Community College Bloomington. Hoosier Link is designed for a select group of Indiana resident students, who are 2013 graduates of an Indiana high school, to gain admission to the IU Bloomington campus upon reaching specific academic benchmarks. Generally, students identified as candidates for the Hoosier Link program show potential to succeed at IU Bloomington and are encouraged to apply for admission to the program. Admission to the Hoosier Link program is competitive and is based on high school academic performance, SAT/ACT scores, and the applicant essay.
A Supportive Academic Community
Hoosier Link students can take advantage of various student support services at both institutions. Whether it is through one-on-one contact with faculty, participating in academic skills-development workshops, or taking advantage of advising staff, students receive all the help they need to succeed. Hoosier Link students also receive access to outstanding facilities, ranging from computer laboratories and libraries to theater and athletic venues.
In addition, all members of the Hoosier Link cohort are required to enroll in a 1 credit non-transferable course at Ivy Tech. There are specific sections just for Hoosier Link students. This course is taught by Hoosier Link staff. All students are required to pass the course with a "C" or higher in order to be considered for admission to IU
Students who participate in the Hoosier Link program benefit from the unique opportunity to strengthen their academic, personal, and social skills, while earning transferable credit at Ivy Tech. Students can take advantage of the smaller classes and personalized attention that Ivy Tech has to offer, including a supportive academic environment where they can easily interact with faculty, staff, and classmates. Also, students become part of the IU Bloomington community through a well-designed residential experience.Engagement in Campus Life
Hoosier Link students have numerous opportunities to become engaged in the campus life and culture at both IU Bloomington and Ivy Tech. Whether it's through participating in a club and serving as a student ambassador at Ivy Tech, or by being involved in intramurals and attending Broadway shows at IU Bloomington, our students are encouraged to become immersed in the culture of both campuses.
A True Residential Experience
All Hoosier Link students live together in the Hoosier Link Learning Community during their first year in the program. This learning community in McNutt Residence Center is intentionally designed to give students outstanding academic, personal, and social enrichment opportunities. The residence hall staff members who live in the Hoosier Link Learning Community serve as both mentors and resource persons for students. As members of this community, Hoosier Link students have the opportunity to gain leadership experience and get involved. In addition, Hoosier Link students will be expected to attend required programs that take place in the residence halls.
